Bhava Ram and his wife Laura Plumb are
the Founders of Deep
Yoga, a yogic system based upon Vedic scriptures, Hatha, Tantra
and Ayurveda that goes deeply into the mind/body/soul connection,
guiding students and clients towards greater self-understanding,
purification, inner-healing and deeper consciousness.
Deep Yoga, a registered teaching school with the Yoga Alliance,
is partnered with Ginseng Yoga Studio in DYSHA
- the Deep Yoga School of Healing Arts. Through DYSHA, Ginseng hosts
Deep Yoga's Mastery
of Life Training, Teacher
Training and Vedic
Healer Training.
Deep Yoga is the result of Bhava's personal experience of living
with terminal illness and chronic pain that gave him a passion for
sharing the transformative healing power that can be accessed and
mastered through the sacred science of Yoga.
For 25 years, Bhava was a broadcast journalist, working for television
stations across the country and ultimately as a foreign correspondent
with NBC News. He lived and worked throughout the world, including
Africa, South America, Asia and the Middle East.
His career was ended in an accident in which his back was broken.
A failed surgery left him "permanently disabled" and in
chronic pain. Subsequently, Bhava was diagnosed with a fatal form
of cancer - most likely contracted from chemical exposure during
the Persian Gulf War. Western doctors gave him two years to live.
Towards the end of those two years, on the brink of death, Bhava
found Yoga. It immediately struck a chord deep in his soul. He left
western medicine behind and fully devoted himself to sadhana (daily
yogic practice and study), delving into every aspect of the art
and science of Yoga. Through this process, Bhava self-healed his
broken back and "terminal" cancer. He now devotes his
life to sharing the miracle of self-healing with others, believing
fully that we all have the inherent power to take charge of our
destiny, heal ourselves and effect lasting personal transformation
in our lives.
Bhava's primary teacher is Vamadeva Shastri (Dr. David Frawley),
an Advaita-Vedantic master and founder of the American Institute
of Vedic Studies. He has also studied extensively with Yogiraj Rod
Stryker, who teaches from the Sri Vidya tradition of Swami Rama
and the Himalayan Institute.
Bhava is certified as an Advanced Yoga and Ayurveda Educator through
the American Institute of Vedic Studies. He has completed additional
training in The Yoga Sutras, Vinyasa Krama (the art of sequencing)
and Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy). He is registered with the Yoga
Alliance at its highest E-500 level. Bhava and Laura also lead seasonal
retreats, perform concerts and work as Ayurvedic
Consultants for a host of private clients.
Bhava
is the author of two books: The 8 Limbs of Yoga, Pathway to Liberation,
and Deep Yoga, Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times, and has produced
CDs in Yoga and meditation. As a musician, composer and songwriter,
he performs spiritual concerts and kirtan workshops in America and
India.
